Natural Aquariums Video Series

I began this series a while back, and while it is about aquariums, these issues are important for a different type of Planted Tank as well: the Vivarium.

Here’s volume 2, it covers basic water chemistry which is important for all endevours into ecosystem construction.

How to Cut Thin Glass Strips

When I first decided I was going to make vivariums I looked at all sorts of glass cutting videos. Thanks to Doug (Pumilo on Dendroboards) I now have a lot of experience. I am cutting the last parts of my 5th vivarium since I got some glass for him.
So here’s what I didn’t mention in the vid, that’s important:
1) The glass has to be immaculately clean. I clean, and then wash the cut line with denatured alcohol just before scoring.
2) The score has to be even and go perfectly from end to end of the sheet. That’s why I’m fussing at the beginning- getting the edge dialed in before the cut. One smooth- even move.
3) There is a line on the running pliers that has to be aligned right on the score. I mention it, but it might not be clear.
Practice- that’s how you get the move down. But once you do- smooth sailing”

Enjoy:
